International Search for a Senior Production Leader Group Production Director Slide

The Challenge

A growing aquaculture business required a Group Production Director capable of leading large-scale production operations and supporting its long-term growth objectives.

From the outset, the organisation recognised that the combination of leadership capability, operational expertise and sector knowledge required for the role was likely to be extremely difficult to identify within the UK market alone. The appointment would play a critical role in supporting operational performance, organisational development and future growth plans.

The key question was not whether a suitable candidate could be found, but where.

The Approach

Appointed commenced the assignment with a comprehensive mapping of the UK market to assess talent availability against the agreed brief.

Our research confirmed that while individual elements of the requirement existed within the UK talent pool, no candidate fully matched the combination of leadership experience, production expertise and sector knowledge sought by the client.

Having established this with confidence, the search expanded internationally. Through detailed market intelligence, direct engagement and targeted search activity across Europe, South America and Asia, Appointed identified and assessed a range of highly relevant candidates from across the global aquaculture industry.

A shortlist of five highly qualified individuals was subsequently presented to the client.

The Outcome

The quality of the shortlist exceeded expectations and led to an international interview process involving candidates from multiple markets.

Following a successful selection process, a preferred candidate was identified and accepted the opportunity, subsequently relocating to the UK to take up the position.

The assignment demonstrated the value of combining rigorous market mapping with international search capability. By looking beyond geographical boundaries and focusing on capability rather than proximity, the organisation secured an experienced production leader from a talent pool that did not exist within its domestic market.
