The Challenge
A listed aquaculture business required a new Chief Financial Officer following the departure of a key member of the leadership team during a pivotal stage in the company’s development.
What initially began as a conventional executive search assignment quickly became a highly time-sensitive requirement. As the business progressed through a significant corporate transaction, the incoming CFO would need to provide financial leadership, support the Board and executive team, and help navigate a period of increased stakeholder scrutiny and commercial complexity.
An assignment originally expected to deliver a shortlist within four weeks was ultimately reduced to a one-week deadline.
The Approach
Appointed rapidly adapted the search strategy, focusing on senior finance leaders with listed company experience, strong commercial capability and a proven track record supporting corporate transactions, investment activity and organisational change.
Through targeted market intelligence, detailed market mapping and direct engagement with senior finance executives, candidates were identified and assessed within exceptionally compressed timescales. Particular emphasis was placed on leadership capability, transaction experience, cultural alignment and the ability to transition into the role quickly.
Despite the urgency of the assignment, the search remained focused on long-term organisational fit rather than simply addressing an immediate vacancy.
The Outcome
A high-calibre shortlist was delivered within one week, enabling the organisation to maintain momentum during a business-critical period.
A successful appointment was made from the shortlist, providing the financial leadership, commercial insight and transaction experience required to support the business through an important stage of its development.
More than seven years later, the appointed candidate remains with the organisation and has subsequently progressed to lead the business. The longevity and success of the appointment demonstrate the value of combining market intelligence, rigorous assessment and long-term thinking, even when operating under significant time pressure.
